Networking – How to get to the hidden job
market (80% of jobs)
Our objective in networking is to meet with decision
makers in order to help them in any way we can, make a
favorable impression, get referrals and move on. Networking is not a
series of meetings to see if people “have a job for me”. If a networking
contact is approached on that basis, the response is almost always
“we don’t have any openings” or “all of our positions are filled through
the Human Resources Department, let me refer you to them.”
Networking is the single most effective tool
for finding your next position. This class teaches the proper
methods you will use and the attitude you must have when
applying this technique for your job search. Some of the other topics you
will learn about are:
Building your network
Preparation for a network
meeting
u
Preparing your two minute story
u
Some ideas on how to develop and maintain a tracking and
monitoring system
u
How and why you should script your telephone conversations
